To Debbie & Carrie
Second, I never knew Debbie Reynolds' work, but my mother was a fan of hers. All I ever knew of Debbie was that she had a wit about her that made any interview entertaining. Lawyers have a saying: Never ask a question you don't know the answer to. I suspect Debbie Reynolds didn't get asked a lot of questions from lawyers, because from what I have seen of her, regardless of the question, her answer was always unpredictable. Barbara Walters can attest to that. She was a gem.
I briefly talked to my mom about Debbie Reynolds' passing, one day after the passing of her daughter Carrie. While my mom is from a time when everyone lived and died by the celebrities of the time, I couldn't care less about any of them. I found out that one of my favorite guitar players died 3 years after the fact through reading Wikipedia. That notwithstanding, I tried to console my mom by saying, "Maybe Debbie was waiting, so that Carrie wouldn't have to know what it is like without her."
I know that is bullshit, but it is better than what is currently circulating on the internet, which is that Debbie died of a broken heart.
Be that as it may. To Debbie & Carrie, thank you for making me smile and laugh, and rest in peace. You will be missed.

You know your brother is an asshole when:
The last time that I talked to him was a very heated argument about my niece's (his daughter) college future. He did his typical self-righteous, sanctimonious, holier-than-thou trope, as the AA playbook calls for, and I unloaded on him the one thing that I had on him, the fact that I was in a relationship that lasted longer than the marriage that he threw away (epic burn). Granted, I was drunk, but in the morning, I was sober and still right.
That was a few years ago. Tonight, I spoke with my mother, who has been dealing with him living with her, in the past month, in a house that has no room for him. I also spoke with my niece, his daughter.
In the past, my mother's uncle (who has since passed) had told me that he did not like my brother because my brother did not say "good morning". The circumstances surrounding this are simple. My mother and I were vacationing in California, my mother's aunt and uncle joined us from Puerto Rico, and my brother and niece joined us from Texas. Every morning, we woke up in a different hotel, went to a different restaurant for breakfast, and enjoyed a different tourist attraction. The one constant was the people that we were with, people that we do not see on a regular basis. When my mother's uncle (for all intents and purposes, I call him my uncle) told me that he didn't like my brother because he doesn't say "good morning", I was taken aback. My first instinct was, regardless of my feelings, that is my brother, and how could he say that. My next thought was, "What the fuck is wrong with my brother, that he can't say good morning to his own relative?"
That brings me to today. I already told my mother and my niece that the last time that I talked to my brother was the last time that I would talk to my brother. Over the course of the last couple of weeks, I have listened to my mother complain about my brother living with her. It is not that he is living with her that is the problem. It is the fact that he shows no appreciation for her allowing him to live with her. He doesn't say "good morning" to her. I have done one thing to my mother that I am ashamed of, for which I have apologized, but that was a very strenuous time for the both of us, and I was 17 at the time. Since then, I have appreciated any and every thing that my mother has done for me. Have I raised my voice? Yes. We constantly argue about my cup of coffee (she doesn't like the amount of sugar I put into MY coffee), but that lasts as long as we are in the same room. My relationship with my mother may not be perfect, but I don't think that she has as many complaints about me as she does about him. But what gets me is that I doubt she complains about me to him. I cannot say that she doesn't complain about him to me, because she does, and what she complains about are the little things that a son should do, like say "good morning". What's worse is that for all of the restraint that I showed in my conversation with my niece, she was more critical of her father that I was. I was holding back, but she wasn't.
Getting back to the subject of this post, you know your brother is an asshole when you are the least critical of him when compared to his daughter and his mother.
Personally, I couldn't care less about my brother. but for the sake of my mother and my niece, I wish my brother wasn't an asshole, but he is. All I can do is help my mother and niece deal with it.

Boycott America
As of today, I am officially boycotting any company headquarter in any state that was won by Donald Trump. I will no longer drink Budweiser or Miller, because of Missouri and Wisconsin. I will no longer buy Idaho potatoes. With regard to sports, I will only attend games played by the Mets, Nets, Islanders, & Jets when they are against opponents from California, Illinois, Colorado, Washington, and the blue East Coast states (fuck you Pennsylvania and Ohio). Michigan still hasn't decided what side of history they want to be on, but rest assured, their result will determine whether I ever buy an American made car again. I could not make the F1 race in Texas this year, but I will not be going next year for a very different reason. Instead, I will go see the Canadian Grand Prix.
Finally, I will not fund a Trump administration with my tax dollars. As such, I am moving to Puerto Rico.
Election Day
While no winner has yet been declared, I have one question: HOW IS THIS EVEN FUCKING CLOSE? I expected him to win Alabama (there is a reason why we have the term"Alabama stupid"), but what is Texas' excuse? Oh yeah, they gave us George W.
Suffice to say, when that son of an orangutan wins the presidency, I will firmly place all blame on every state that he won. As such, I will do the only thing that I can do to punish every one of those states, which is take my money elsewhere.
To all of you Amazon and eBay sellers, be wary of where you are, because I will not buy from a state that went red. All of you gulf state voters, you better learn to swim, because my exodus means that the next hurricane relief will not be paid for by me, because I will be exempt from U.S. federal taxes (just like your president).
In closing, to all of you Trump voters and to all of you "Bernie or Bust" people, when Donald Trump is your president, all I have to say is, "You get what you deserve."
Fuck you all!

Kharma
If there is kharmic justice in this universe, President Trump will push for a constitutional amendment to repeal the 19th Amendment.

Donald Trump, pt 2
As a self-admitted sexual predator, Donald Trump has padded his resume as the biggest douchebag in the world, on top of admitting to betraying all of the values that his supporters laud him for being a model example of.
I do not like to associate myself with stupid people. That is why I changed my party affiliation from Republican to Independent this year. While dishonesty is not a trait that I look for in my president, all of the traits that Donald Trump displays make a dishonest person preferable. That being said, I will vote for Hillary Clinton for one reason, and one reason alone: so that when Donald Trump faces his greatest failure and utter humiliation and the Republican party is left an empty shell of itself, I can say that I was a part it.
The GOP, as I previously stated, sold its soul for power. First, they invited the christian right, then the tea party kicked down the door, and now they have this racist, sexist, xenophobic, tax-evading, self-centered, psychopathic, hypocritically misanthrope and all of his followers. So now, the GOP is the party of misinformed old people, uninformed young people, and white supremacists, all of whom believe that god and Donald Trump are their salvation. The only hope that America has is that most of the Fox News watching voters will die before the 2020 election.

Working for a Great Company
Prior to working for my current employer, the best company I worked for was American Express, and I did so as an independent contractor. Amex was so good that when my contract expired, and I was no longer bound by non-compete clauses, I actively sought returning to them as an employee, and vowed to leave any job that I had to work for them.
Yesterday, I got an email notification about a job posting from Amex, similar to the jobs that I have applied for in the past. Instead of applying for the job, I deleted the email. Why? Because a) I would probably not even get an interview, and b) the job that I started in March gives me everything that I had at Amex and more.
This is not a slight on American Express. This is advice for how an employer should act. My employer prior to Amex was miserable to work for. I worked for them for 3 and a half years and never got a raise, and I was told by a co-worker that based upon what he knew of the job market, I was being paid at least $5 under market value for my skill set. I found out that my closest co-worker, who performed a similar job function as me, had not gotten a raise in 10 years, and if the rumors were correct, SHE was making as much as $6 an hour less than me. Meanwhile the guy that fired me asked my co-workers if they thought they could replace me, lied about the circumstances of my termination, actively fought against me collecting unemployment, hired his friend (who he gave raises to, while denying me raises), and within 1 year of my termination, cost the company the contract that made my former position necessary. A lot of people lost their jobs, but this incompetent moron got moved to another account (from what I heard, he was forcibly removed from the account that he screwed up at the demand of the client).
My current employer is different. I am not pitted against my co-workers in a competition to keep my job. My co-workers and I work together to do what needs to be done. We cover each others backs, not our own asses. I don't dread going to work. I am recognized as a valued employee, based on my performance, and I am compensated at a competitive rate (the benefits and perks are also pretty good). Email is used as a method of communication, not as a shield to protect oneself or as a weapon to attack another. Mistakes are treated as opportunities to learn, not another nail on the cross. The goal of everything we do is not getting it done fast; it is getting it done right. My boss, my co-workers, and I have the single-minded focus of doing what we do and doing it to the best of our collective ability. We openly share knowledge and ideas among each other, to make the TEAM better.
American Express is a lot closer to my current employer than the employer prior to them, and I would wholeheartedly advocate working for them, but this is not about Amex. This is about you and your job. If you work for a company that sounds like my current employer, you are probably happy with your job. If your job sounds like the misery that I experienced previously, then quit, and find something else.

Donald Trump & the GOP
The GOP is in the throws of having to accept the realization that Donald Trump may win the nomination in accordance with the rules set forth by the party, and they are looking at all possible ways of preventing that from happening. But why would they do that? He is xenophobic, just like the rest of the Republican party. He's also a misogynist, like the Republicans. He appeals to the GOP's target demographic, white people. And finally, he, just like the GOP, will stop at nothing to gain power. I think it is that last one that has put the GOP in the position that they are in now.
I don't know if they still have their panties in a bunch over Ted Kennedy's objection to Robert Bork's Supreme Court nomination or what, but I have noticed that since that point, Republicans' willingness to do anything to win seems to supersede their sense of duty to the country they claim to love. Since that point, the GOP has been hijacked twice, first by evangelicals, then by the Tea Party. Now, the GOP is being hijacked by Donald Trump and the KKK. When will the Republican party learn? For christian people that they claim to be, why do they continue to make deals with the devil?
After the first time, they should have learned and not let it happen again. After courting the evangelicals, they found out that they were then beholden to them, if they wanted to continue to get their support. The second time around, the GOP made a Faustian bargain with the tea party, and for it the GOP was given the choice of unwavering promotion of their agenda or be primaried. By accepting Donald Trump as a candidate for the nomination of their party, the GOP is now openly supported with white supremacists, islamophobes, misogynists, and other people whose own insecurities can only be stemmed by belittling those with whom they cannot empathize with. Donald Trump has turned the republican primaries into 1930's Germany.
When I turned 18, back in 1990, I registered as a republican, because I believed in the direction that Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush were moving this country in, but since Newt Gringrich became the Speaker of the House of Representatives, I have not voted for a republican since, and I don't forsee ever voting for a republican again. Why? Well, first, I'm not white. I am Puerto Rican, which makes me an American citizen, but I'm sure that a minor detail like that doesn't matter to the people that align themselves the today's republican party. Secondly, I have a mother and a niece, and I do not agree with republicans and their supporters on the issues that affect them. Third, there is no god, and I will not facilitation putting into any elected office anyone that wishes to impose their misguided belief in mythology and fairy tales through government.
I am still a registered republican, and I may vote for Trump in the primary, just to see him fall in disgrace to Bernie Sanders, but I can assure you that when my vote really matters, I want the republican party to know that, just as they have abandoned me, I have abandoned them.
Update: In light of the riot that Donald Trump caused in Chicago yesterday, I have a piece of advice for the GOP. Divorce yourself from Donald Trump. State clearly, that he and his hateful idealogy are not welcome in your party, and let his supporters know that if they vote for Donald Trump, they are not voting for a republican.

Yoda
I finally understand Yoda's statement, "There is no try; there is only do." The unsure say, "I will try my best." The determined say, "I will do my best."

Flint
I know it's been a long time, but I have had a lot of personal matters to deal with. That said, I have been hearing about the water situation, that in my opinion amounts to a crime against humanity.
In my honest opinion, each and every citizen of Flint, Michigan should file a lawsuit for actual damages against whoever they paid their water bills to, since the beginning of this whole debacle, and punitive damages against the state, the governor, and the emergency manager.
Maybe then, all of those selfish, tea-party, not wanting to pay taxes in the suburbs douchebags will finally realize that there is a reason why taxes exist and why a good citizen does what is good for society.
All of these tea-party people don't want to pay for schools for any kids other than their own, but they are more than happy to pay for cops to shoot or arrest those same kids that they could have educated.
They elected a republican legislature and governor to lower their taxes. Well, who do they think is going to compensate the citizens of Flint?
