To Debbie & Carrie

First, Carrie Fisher will always be Princess Leia to me.  My memories of her are not in the bikini; they are of her not taking shit from Han and calling Chewbacca a walking carpet.  She was the first strong female figure in media that I was exposed to.  I remember Linda Carter as Wonder Woman, but all that I remember is that she was pretty.  I also remember Lindsay Wagner as the Bionic Woman, but when they had the bionic dog, a bionic woman didn't seem so special.  Even in the latest installment of Star Wars, Carrie played the role of the baddest bitch in the galaxy.  Forgive my language.  What I am trying to say is that Leia took crap from nobody.  She took down her father and her son.  By the way, since then, she has proven to be incredibly funny with her quips about her life experiences.

Second, I never knew Debbie Reynolds' work, but my mother was a fan of hers.  All I ever knew of Debbie was that she had a wit about her that made any interview entertaining.  Lawyers have a saying: Never ask a question you don't know the answer to.  I suspect Debbie Reynolds didn't get asked a lot of questions from lawyers, because from what I have seen of her, regardless of the question, her answer was always unpredictable.  Barbara Walters can attest to that.  She was a gem.

I briefly talked to my mom about Debbie Reynolds' passing, one day after the passing of her daughter Carrie.  While my mom is from a time when everyone lived and died by the celebrities of the time, I couldn't care less about any of them.  I found out that one of my favorite guitar players died 3 years after the fact through reading Wikipedia.  That notwithstanding, I tried to console my mom by saying, "Maybe Debbie was waiting, so that Carrie wouldn't have to know what it is like without her."

I know that is bullshit, but it is better than what is currently circulating on the internet, which is that Debbie died of a broken heart.

Be that as it may.  To Debbie & Carrie, thank you for making me smile and laugh, and rest in peace.  You will be missed.
